Last week, on the hottest
day of the year, some very kind volunteers from Greenleaf and our sister company PHS Datashred, joined forces to help out on a Business in the Community project.
Thames Reach Centre in Southwark is a drugs rehabilitation centre which was badly in need of help with their not very user-friendly garden. Overgrown and with no proper seating facilities for their staff and clients, the Centre wanted to create a garden everyone could enjoy, to relax, socialise in and par-take of the occasional BBQ.
So ten members of PHS staff, ably equipped with Greenleaf spades and trowels arrived at the centre early in the morning for what
promised to be a day of hard work, hot sun and great fun.
Their first job was to tidy up the garden generally, then beds and borders were created or spruced up with new plants and a top covering of bark applied. Meanwhile the benches were put together and placed around the garden. Greenleaf supplied the plants, bark and tools while Datashred kindly donated the benches.
It took all day to accomplish these tasks which were back-breaking enough without the added problem of having to take a break in the shade every half hour as the temperatures hit 30 degrees centigrade!
Here's a team photo of the gang who kindly donated their time, you may recognise some of the ex-Greenleaf staff who now work for Datashred, including Karen James (left), Helen Pattenden (third from the right) and Caroline Williams (second from right). The others are Claire (Datashred), Daniel (Datashred), Elaine (Greenleaf), Phil (Greenleaf), Les (Greenleaf), Harvey (Greenleaf) and Anthony (Datashred).
