Greenleaf stops the traffic!

Exterior Work at All Bar One in Leicester Square brings the traffic to a halt

We know Greenleaf love a challenge but their latest Exterior Landscaping project certainly took things to a newExterior landscaping project height – literally.

As part of a planned maintenance schedule, Greenleaf’s Waltham Abbey exterior team recently refurbished All Bar One's flagship site in Leicester Square, London. But this project turned out to be anything but straightforward.

The job involved replacing 22 metres of troughs on the perimeter of a building at a height of between 6 – 7 metres.  The only problem reaching the plant displays was that the use of ladders against the building was prohibited and an outside decking area prevented the use of scaffolding. This meant gaining permission from Westminster Council to operate mechanical equipment in Leicester Square and closing the road whilst it was in operation.

Conal Wills (pictured below), Waltham Abbey’s Operations Manager, led the team liaising with Westminster Council for permission to access London's premier tourist destination with a specialist planting team.

Once permission was granted, another challenge was that the work had to be carried out between 7am and 12pm as the square was closed to vehicles at all other times. Reducing disruption to All Bar One customers was also paramount with the bar opening at 10am.

The work itself was carried out on a self leveling mobile scissor lift - driven by Greenleaf’s qualified operator David Perrin.  This machine had an extendable platform that allowed access over a small decking area along the front of the building,

The Waltham Abbey exterior team of Leroy Coles, Bruce Kinton and Guy Rogers, , then cut away old, strong ivy, before lifting out the troughs and replacing them using long trailing ivys from Waterside Nursery. The watering system was revamped at the same time too.

The team, plus Simon Harvey and Conal Wills then returned on Saturday to complete the troughs on the side of the building where the use of the scissor lift was not possible. For this area they used a scaffold tower and again had to seek the same permissions form Westminster Council, building managers and All Bar One.

Ends.
