Christmas Can be Even Greener This Year

Written by: phs Greenleaf

phs Greenleaf has been providing planting and landscaping services to businesses for over 25 years, including indoor and outdoor plants, artificial and live planting, living walls, grounds maintenance and Christmas trees and decorations.

Christmas is a very colourful time of year – full of rich reds, glamorous golds, shining silvers and more. And while we all love a little colour, especially at phs Greenleaf, there’s one colour we can’t forget at this time of year – green!

At phs Greenleaf, we’re helping businesses drive sustainability, with the help of great value products that respect the environment. Our Christmas range is no exception. Crafted from beautiful, natural products, this year’s selection of sustainable trees include the Festive Forage and Christmoss Tree™, joining our glittering range of stunning Christmas trees and decorations. This gives customers alternative options for decorating their homes and businesses with greener choices this festive season.

Christmas means different things to different people. Whether it’s a time to reminisce with family and friends or one to look forward to new beginnings; a chance for us to spoil our children or an excuse to bring out the big kid in us all, phs Greenleaf has all of the options covered with traditional, contemporary and indulgent themes to bedeck your halls, offices and reception areas.

It’s not just our Christmas trees that are green

phs Greenleaf’s sustainable Christmas trees will enable your business to further demonstrate your commitment to environmental causes, while also spreading cheer and good will. Our realistic looking artificial trees are returned to our depots at the end of the Christmas season to be cleaned and redecorated for the following year while for every real Christmas tree that phs Greenleaf lovingly installs, two trees are planted and replaced with trees supplied by British Christmas Tree growers association.

Members that comply with a code of conduct means trees are grown in an environmentally sustainable way. We use quality British trees as they are treated with the appropriate care to survive to the end of the festivities and still look good.

Our eco-friendly trees further support phs Greenleaf’s environmental policy by using eco-friendly Christmas decorations made from natural products, such as hessian, wicker and preserved grasses, leaves and flowers. Pampas, Eucalyptus and dried Fan Palm leaves provide interesting features while handmade hessian bows, and wicker baubles and stars add a traditional Christmas feel. The tree is finished off with a woven wicker skirt, giving it a natural finish from top to toe.

As with all of our Christmas tree range, energy-saving LED lights can be added to your Christmoss Tree™ and Festive Forage Christmas trees to provide a bit of extra sparkle to your premises that can be enjoyed by your staff and visitors throughout the Christmas period.

How to have an eco-friendly Christmas

An eco-friendly Christmas doesn’t mean compromising on the festive spirit. With a few thoughtful choices, you can celebrate the season while reducing your environmental impact. From choosing sustainable decorations to rethinking how you buy gifts, there are a lot of ways to make your Christmas greener. The key is to be mindful of your consumption, waste, and the overall environmental footprint of your festive activities. This not only benefits the planet but also adds a layer of meaning to your celebrations, knowing that your festivities are kinder to the environment.

Top tips for a greener Christmas

While the Christmas period is a time for happiness and celebration, it can also be a time of excess, contributing to significant amounts of waste each year. By making conscious decisions, you can enjoy all the magic of Christmas while minimising your impact on the planet. Here are some top tips for a greener Christmas:

Invest in a pre-decorated Christmas tree

If you're looking for a convenient and sustainable option, consider investing in a pre-decorated Christmas tree. We’ve already introduced you to our collection of pre-decorated Christmas trees, and this year’s selection looks set to be better than ever.

We’ve been working throughout the year to research and design Christmas trees that capture the latest styles and trends to give you a fantastic selection to choose from. These trees are made from high-quality, durable materials that can be used year after year.

By choosing a pre-decorated tree, you reduce the need to buy new decorations annually, cutting down on waste. You’ll also be able to benefit from our LED lights that consume less power than traditional bulbs. This not only saves energy but also lowers your electricity bill, making it a win-win for both you and the environment.

Consider eco-friendly Christmas trees

When choosing a Christmas tree, think about its environmental impact. Eco-friendly options include real trees from sustainable farms, where trees are replanted for every one that is cut down. These trees are biodegradable and can be repurposed as mulch or compost after the festive season. Alternatively, you might consider an artificial tree made from recycled materials, which can be reused for many years. The key is to choose a tree that aligns with your values and has a lower carbon footprint over its lifetime.

You could even consider a bare tree or 360 tree to boost your green credentials even further.

Try Christmas tree rental this year

For those who want to minimise waste entirely, Christmas tree rental is a fantastic option. And at phs Greenleaf, we’re more than happy to help you out. Renting a tree reduces the demand for cutting down new trees and eliminates the need to dispose of a tree after Christmas, making it one of the greenest options available.

Decorate with eco-friendly Christmas decorations

Christmas decorations can often be wasteful, especially when they’re made from non-recyclable materials or used only once. To make your Christmas décor greener, opt for decorations made from natural, sustainable, or recycled materials (more on this below). You can also get creative by making your own decorations using items you already have at home. Upcycling old Christmas cards into garlands or repurposing fabric scraps into decorations not only reduces waste but also adds a personal touch to your decorations.

Recycle your tree properly

At the end of the festive season, it’s important to dispose of your Christmas tree responsibly. Real trees can be recycled into mulch, which can be used in gardens and parks. Many local councils offer tree recycling programmes where your tree can be picked up and repurposed. If you have an artificial tree that you no longer need, consider donating it to a charity shop or recycling centre if possible. Proper recycling ensures that your tree doesn’t end up in a landfill, helping to reduce your overall environmental impact.

Christmas decorations that don’t cost the earth

This year’s sustainable trees are the latest additions to phs Greenleaf’s commitment to improve social and environmental standards. We’ve been introducing eco-friendly products and processes throughout our 15 years’ experience of providing Christmas trees and decorations to businesses across the UK. Our FSC certification, for example, demonstrates that phs Greenleaf is committed to purchasing and using wood, paper and other forest products made with materials from well-managed forests and/or recycled sources.

Sustainable Christmas tree hire has never been easier. phs Greenleaf will deliver and install all of your chosen decorations at a time to suit your business, while also taking into consideration our delivery routes to minimise vehicle emissions and environmental impact. In the New Year, our team will return to collect all of the decorations, ready to reuse and recycle for the following year. With so much choice, you’re bound to find a theme to complement your office or premises, or chat to us about your own bespoke Christmas tree ideas.
